Carrie Banfield-Taplin has played principal horn in the Flint Symphony for nearly 30 years. She grew up in Grand Blanc and was a student at the FIM where she studied horn with her aunt, Nancy Ruebke. Carrie played with all the youth ensembles and was a youth concerto competition winner during high school. She earned Horn Performance degrees at the University of Michigan and Northwestern University and has become a highly sought after freelance orchestral and chamber musician throughout Michigan and Ohio. In addition to the FSO, Ms. Banfield-Taplin is principal horn in the Warren Symphony, and a 28 year member of the Michigan Opera Theatre orchestra at the Detroit Opera House, playing everything from grand opera and ballet, to Broadway shows and orchestral backup, to the many acts that come through town. She is on the faculty of Heidelberg University and performs with their faculty woodwind quintet.
